Karamea man Andrew Ross White, 58, has not been seen since he started the popular 78km Great Walk in Kahurangi National Park from Golden Bay on August 6. Human remains were recovered from the coastline north of Katipo shelter on Thursday. Search and rescue coordinator Sergeant Sean Judd says a forensic analysis will need to be undertaken before the deceased can be formally identified. However, given the location the remains were found, 6km north of where Mr White was last seen, Sgt Judd was confident it was the missing man. The search has been suspended, although periodic searches of the coastline will be done.
